Economic Comparison

Countries with unreliable power grids have a number of backup power solutions, such as diesel generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and solar energy systems with conventional lead-acid batteries. The SkyElectric Smart Energy System has energy management intelligence and unique battery technology that makes it the cost and convenience leader amongst all the alternatives. A cost comparison analysis was conducted, which compared the projected costs incurred over a 10-year period by SkyElectric’s s systems, generators of comparable size, and comparable conventional solar systems with lead-acid batteries and no energy management intelligence. The results show that even without taking into account the potential cost savings of SmartFlow energy management software,

SkyElectric systems proved to be a more cost effective option than both generators and conventional solar systems. This is because generators are subject to fuel costs, which continuously add to the total cost of ownership of the system. Additionally, fuels costs can be unpredictable and generally follow a rising trend, making it hard to cap the total cost of ownership over ten years as fuel prices have no pre-set upper limit. Conventional solar systems use lead-acid batteries which, due to their short cycle life, need to be replaced every 1.5 to 2 years leading to increasing capital costs over 10 years. In the scenarios analyzed, SkyElectric Smart Energy System required a battery pack replacement after 13 years. As system capacity increases SkyElectric Systems price comparisons become even better.

 Price is a key factor to consider when investing in an energy backup solution, such as a generator, solar energy system or a UPS. The prices of such energy systems vary in Pakistan as well as neighboring countries but the prices are more than simply upfront costs. The best energy solution investment to make is the one with the least on going cumulative costs, such as replacement of parts, frequent purchasing of fuel, and constant repair. The Smart Energy System has the lowest cumulative costs when compared to any other solution in the market.

Although SkyElectric Smart Energy Systems starts out with a slightly higher capital cost than alternatives, at 4-5 years they break-even with them. In the chart shown to the left, a generator with its associated fuel costs becomes more expensive than a SkyElectric system after 2 to 3 years. Conventional solar systems become costlier after 5 years.

Absolute costs at the end of 10 years, of generators are around 4 to 5 times more than Smart Energy System costs and conventional solar systems costs around 2 times more than a Smart Energy System.

SmartFlow Savings

SmartFlow energy management software can provide additional savings of up to 10-30% compared to conventional (non-intelligent) solar systems without even taking into account the ongoing battery related costs. With SmartFlow savings, the Smart Energy System breaks even with conventional solar systems and generators within 3 years.
